The Book and Media Sale (BAMS), a bi-annual event that is part of a year-long drive of books, CDs, DVDs, and other forms of media donations, first started in 2010 with Greg Shaw (HSC president) and John Guardiola (HSC VP). It was decided by majority vote on the council for the funds of the sale to benefit Kosair Children’s NICU. Since then, HSC has hosted BAMS a total of four times and has mostly recently begun a partnership with Camp Quality of Kentuckiana, which organizes summer camp experiences for children living with cancer. Over the years, it has become one of HSC’s most successful and well attended events, strengthening our bond with both the campus and Louisville community!
In recent years, HSC is excited to announce the 2015-2016 BAMS was a tremendous success. Thanks to campus and Louisville’s community, $18, 228.40 will be donated to Camp Quality of Kentuckiana!
From August 2011 to April 2012, the University of Louisville’s Honors Student Council set their goal to collect 30,000 books and other pieces of media in order to raise $10,000 for Kosiar Children’s Hospital. The sale was held April 3-7, 2012 in the University of Louisville Red Barn. After an entire year’s hard work by Honors Student Council and the generous support of the Louisville community, the 2012 Book and Media Sale featured 35,000 pieces of media and ended up raising a whopping $11,000! This $11,000 was donated to the “Just for Kids” Critical Care Unit of Kosair Children’s Hospital on April 27, 2012. Joined by their faculty advisor Luke Buckman, the Book and Media Sale Directors Ryan Moran, Brianna Flanigan, Olivia Sailor, and Kirstin Henry joined the Kosair Children’s Hospital representative to present the check and tour the hospital.
